COMMUNITY SERVICE PROJECT
Katie is 12 years old. She established this fund to make the lives of
families of children who have to be

admitted to Vanderbilt Children’s
Hospital a little bit easier. Katie was recently admitted to VCH for
the second time, because of Leukemia. Children with cancer are often
admitted more than once, and sometimes the stay can be for a long time.
When this happens, the parents must buy all of their meals. Katie
met a family whose daughter had been in the hospital for 200 days in
a single year! They were so kind and supportive of Katie and her parents,
even though they had only been there for 10 days. That’s when
Katie decided the way to help was by establishing Katie's Helping Hand.
How can SASFAA members help? By contributing $5 you can provide a
meal for a parent of a sick child. If SASFAA attendees contribute $5
each, we can provide $3,000 or 600 meals. Together, we can make a difference
in people’s lives when they need it most. Watch for our booth
at the conference.
