COMMUNITY SERVICE PROJECT
Community Partners for Children is an all volunteer, tax-exempt 501(c)(3) non-profit organization located in Alexandria, Virginia, and has dedicated itself to assisting children in need since 1991. Throughout the year we collect school supplies, toys, baby supplies, and other items and distribute them to disadvantaged children. Our close working relationship with the Alexandria Department of Human Services, public school social workers, as well as various community service organizations allows us to provide assistance to those most vulnerable in our community, our children.
In 1991 founder Margaret Conner created a group called HO HO HO to collect Christmas toys for needy children. It quickly became apparent that the children needed much more than toys—they had basic needs such as clothes, school supplies, and food. In 2000 HO HO HO officially changed its name to Community Partners for Children to better provide cheer on a year-round basis.
Each year Community Partners for Children, in addition to its other collection activities, collects school supplies and backpacks for over 5,200 children in Alexandria public schools. The school supplies, generously donated by individuals, organizations and businesses are given to the school social workers who distribute them to eligible students at the beginning of the school year. We also provide supplies year-round to social workers, teachers and location nonprofits upon request.
At the conference, SASFAA members will have an opportunity to help Community Partners for Children in its all-important efforts to support the children of the community by making monetary donations or donations of school supplies or backpacks. More details about the giving opportunities will be provided as the conference draws nearer so please stay tuned.
