The SASFAA Conference Committee has selected a local charity organization in Louisville devoted to changing lives, families, and communities’ through education. Come to SASFAA and be part of this ground breaking opportunity to change peoples’ lives!
Family Scholar House (FSH), was started in recognition of the challenges that single parents face in trying to provide housing, childcare and basic necessities for their children without adequate funding obtained through education. Together with the participants, FSH focuses on the goal of education and overcoming the stigma associated with poverty. FSH provides a safe and motivational environment that supports single parents and their children as they pursue a baccalaureate degree at a college of their choice. This program equips its participants with the tools they need to complete college and successfully enter into productive society. In addition to maintaining full-time enrollment, participants are required to complete life skill training curriculum on subjects such as financial literacy, dietary nutrition, study skills and time management further ensuring the success of these students once they graduate from college. FSH encourages the participants to support each other in achieving their common goals and support the community in which they live.
