Guy F. Gibbs, Candidate for President-Elect
It is an honor to be nominated by one’s peers for the position of President-Elect of SASFAA. I take this opportunity to thank those who submitted my name to the Nominations and Elections Committee and to that committee for their support. In January 1987 I accepted a position in financial aid at Northern Virginia Community College after having been out of education for several years. I had been involved in financial aid early in my career but little did I realize the changes that had taken place over the years. I am thankful to many in the financial aid community that helped me to “relearn” financial aid and to my state association and SASFAA for the excellent training they provided. In the summer of 1987, I attended the new aid workshop and from that time I have remained active not only in my state association, VASFAA, but also in SASFAA. I’ve served on committees, chaired others, been elected as a representative-at-large, treasurer and in 1998-1999 served as VASFAA state president. During this time I’ve remained active in SASFAA including a two-year period as an instructor for the summer new aid officer workshop. I have served on the SASFAA board as Virginia state president and was appointed by the Board as secretary in 1999-2000. You subsequently elected me as your secretary for 2000-2002. In 2003-2004 I’ve served as SASFAA Newsletter Editor. |
SASFAA is one of the strongest and most innovative regional associations. It has been a pleasure to be a member these past 17 years and to have the opportunity to serve on the board both in an elective capacity and committee chair. I am committed to this association. My involvement and contribution to the work of the Board as state president and more recently as secretary and committee chair reflect my commitment to the membership, the financial aid profession and further defines my qualifications for President-Elect. If elected, I will devote my energies to furthering the goals of SASFAA and serving the membership; however, along with you, I will not lose sight of our responsibility to serve students, their families and our college community.
