JUNE 2004

Report from the Budget and Finance Committee
Jane McNaughton, Chair

Jane McNaughton, chair of the Budget and Finance Committee for 2003-2004, will conclude her two-year term on June 30, 2004. At the June 2004 Transitional Board Meeting, Jane will present other investment opportunities to the Board that are authorized for consideration as part of SASFAA’s long- term investment strategy. After discussion at the February 2004 Board Meeting about alternate investment instruments, Jane is working with Jim Mills of SunTrust Bank, SASFAA’s investment advisor, to compile a list for Board consideration as alternative investments for the two certificates of deposit which mature in June 2004.

Jane would like to thank the SASFAA Board for the opportunity to work with and serve the membership of SASFAA for the past two years. She would also like to thank Terry Bland of MOHELA, Terri Parchment of EdAmerica and Dave Cecil of Transylvania University for serving on the Budget and Finance Committee for 2003-2004. A special thanks also goes to Lester McKenzie, SASFAA Treasurer for 2003-2003, for his unending work for the membership of SASFAA. Karen Koonce will assume the Budget and Finance chair position on July 1, 2004.

Report from the Treasurer
Lester McKenzie

Things have finally calmed down this side of the conference only to get going again as we prepare for the New Aid Officers Workshop in Tampa and the Intermediate Aid Officers Workshop in Jackson, MS. If you haven't already submitted your registration form, please do so now as the workshops are filling up. If you are planning on coming but don't have money in your 03/04 budget, remember all you need to submit is the $100 deposit to reserve your spot. Due to the positive response, we will accept credit card payments onsite at the workshops so you may use your institutional credit card to pay for the remaining balance. We will accept Visa, MasterCard and American Express.

I have submitted an up-to-date budget to be posted on the SASFAA website. By the time you read this, it should be available for your review. The budget looks good and we are set for another profitable year in SASFAA. Jane McNaughton is looking at excess cash and how best to secure the well-being of our organization's future. If you have any comments or suggestions, please do not hesitate to contact Jane or myself.

I am always looking for ways to improve services to SASFAA members and if you have any suggestions, please let me know. We are looking at accepting credit cards year-round so if you have an opinion either way, please let me know. I look forward to seeing those of you who will attend our summer workshops and the rest of you in February. From the mountains of North Carolina - Peace.
