Report from the President-Elect

The President-Elect attended the NASFAA conference in Minneapolis in July. Beginning with the November 14-16 NASFAA board meeting to be held in New York City, the site of the 2005 annual conference, the President-Elect will sit as an observer and report action taken to the SASFAA board and membership. The President and Past President will be voting members of the NASFAA board for 2004-2005.

At the SASFAA board meeting held in Atlanta August 7-8, the President-Elect indicated that preparations are underway for 2005-2006. Invitations have been extended to several individuals asking that they chair committees. Lisanne Masterson, Brevard College in North Carolina, has agreed to chair the conference committee; Keith Reeves, Clemson University in South Carolina, will chair the vendor/sponsor committee; and Ron Gambill will continue to serve as chair of the site selection committee.

Dates and locations of board meetings for 2005-2006 have yet to be determined.

Preceding the annual conference, President’s-Elect of the nine states comprising SASFAA will meet for a day of orientation. The SASFAA President-Elect and Carol Mowbray, a SASFAA Past President, will conduct this session.

The 2006 annual conference will be held at the Sheraton Greensboro Four Seasons, Greensboro, North Carolina, February 12-15. NCASFAA is looking forward to hosting the conference and already making plans. Mark your calendars now and looking for the 2006 conference booth at the Atlanta conference for more information. It’s going to be an exciting, information and fun-filled time.


Report from the Immediate Past President

The following positions will be voted on at the SASFAA 2005 annual conference in Atlanta (information will be posted very soon at www.sasfaa.org for both the conference and nomination information):

  • President-Elect
  • Vice President
  • Treasurer

 

The President-Elect needs to be someone who has served on the SASFAA Board, served in leadership positions before (typically served as President of a state association or other associations), someone with knowledge of all areas within SASFAA, i.e., New Aid Officers workshops, Conferences, budget, etc., good organizational skills, able to fulfill the requirements of the position, i.e., travel when needed, write reports, etc., and has good presentation skills -- able to stand in front of a large crowd.

The Vice President must have served SASFAA on the Professional Development Committee and been a part of the New Aid Officers Workshop as an instructor. This person must know the ins and outs of all aspects of the workshop, i.e., curriculum, site selection, agenda, housing needs, food, activities, instructors and training, etc. This individual will be responsible for the New Aid Officers Workshop and also it will be SASFAA's turn to host the Mid-Level Workshop (which the VP is in charge of). This person must have great organizational skills and also possess knowledge of budgetary concerns.

The Treasurer must have experience serving as a treasurer in no less than a state association -- greater experience is desired. This individual must have knowledge of budgetary needs, investments concerns, invoicing issues, possess skills in directing procedural issues, able to call individuals to task, and possess the utmost in integrity. Preferably, the treasurer should be someone who has served on the SASFAA Board - thus knowing the needs and concerns of the Association.
