OCTOBER 2004

Report from North Carolina (NCASFAA)
Sharon Oliver, President

“Volunteers Are Making a Difference for NC”

The active, involved, committed members of the North Carolina Association for Student Financial Aid Administrators are making a difference. We are the very proud recipients of the 2004 NASFAA State Award for Service to Financial Aid Profession with the submission of the Neophyte Listserve. This listserve connects new aid professionals with Veteran Administrators. We are growing in membership. There were 465 active members on last year. Our targeted goal for this year is 500 members. The average number of attendees for the fall and spring conferences on last year was 260 members. As always, we appreciate our members and agencies for their services and support throughout the year.

Goals for 2004-05
The primary goals for this year are to develop future leaders and provide excellent professional training and develop programs considering members’ experience, institutional type and level of responsibilities. We have established a NCASFAA scholarship that will be issued at each of our conferences.

FALL Conference – Lights, Camera, Action – Roll Out the Red Carpet!
The conference planning committee is excited to present NCASFAA’s fall conference in Durham, North Carolina. The official conference site is the Durham Marriott at the Civic Center. The conference will be held on November 8-10, 2004 and this year NCASFAA, in conjunction with the U.S. Department of Education, will host a pre-conference workshop entitled: Return of Title IV, Analyzing Data and Conflicting Training Workshop on Sunday, November 7, 2004.

The work we do as Financial Aid Professionals deserves applause and an encore. That’s why the theme for this year’s fall conference is “Spotlight on NCASFAA: Premiere of the NCASFAA Fall Conference”. Come celebrate our successes, participate in star attraction workshops, mingle, and reminisce with your colleagues. This premiere is like no other and you don’t want to miss the fall conference!

We want you to participate and take part in training sessions planned to make your office take action and produce results. At the conference, training will be provided for new aid officers, directors, associate/assistant directors, and financial aid professionals at all levels. The demand for financial aid knowledge and professional advice from our parents and students continue to increase on a yearly basis and that’s why it is important to stay connected, informed, and current on financial aid issues. Please join us for our fall conference.
