Report from the President-Elect
Guy Gibbs
Planning Under Way for SASFAA 2005-2006
What a great year we have enjoyed under the leadership of Janet Sain,
SASFAA President. We’ve seen our membership grow, had a very
successful Management Institute and Conference and now anticipate
a great New Aid Officers Workshop under the direction of Zita Barree,
Vice President.
For the President-Elect, this has been a year of learning, attending
state conferences at the request of the president, and preparing for
2005-2006. The officers have been elected, the state presidents elected
by their state associations, and committee chairs and liaisons selected.
The following individuals will assume their positions July 1, 2005
and serve through June 20, 2006. SASFAA is fortunate to have such
qualified individuals in leadership positions.

Interregional Visit
The President-Elect sits as an observer on the NASFAA Board. In that
position, he had the opportunity to attend the board meeting of the
Rocky Mountain Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators
(RMASFAA). The board meeting was held in Denver, Colorado, February
11-13. He arrived in summer-like temperatures on Friday and left with
snow on the ground on Sunday. Dave Gelinas, NASFAA National Chair-Elect,
also attended the meeting.
This was a great learning experience by having the opportunity to
observe another regional board in session. While SASFAA and RMASFAA
do many things alike, there were differences as well. This proved
to be a great change to learn alternative ways of doing things that
might be taken into consideration by SAFSAA. Thanks to Peg Mason,
RMASFAA President, and their board for their hospitality. Peg also
asked that SASFAA be thanked for their hospitality when she attended
the SASFAA conference in Atlanta in February
Transition Planning
Planning is well under way for the final SASFAA board meeting of the
year, as well as the transition of boards on Saturday, June 11, 2005.
This meeting is to be held in St. Petersburg Beach, Florida, and will
give the current board an opportunity to share their experiences with
the new board, a chance for the 2005-2006 president to orient the
incoming board, and the opportunity for the incoming board to get
to know one another better as they plan for the activities and events
for 2005-2006.
