Leadership and Strategic Planning Summit Underway
The members of the Long Range Planning Committee met in Charlotte, North Carolina on September 18-19, 2005, to complete plans for the SASFAA Leadership and Strategic Planning Summit. The Summit will take place in November at the Hilton in Charlotte. The purpose of the meeting is to bring together prior, current and new potential leaders of the Association to identify challenges facing SASFAA and its membership in the next several years. Approximately 35 individuals will participate in the Summit which includes the current Board of Directors under the leadership of President Guy Gibbs.

The Summit will be led by Tara Telfair from the Leadership Development Center at the University of Virginia. This will be the first time in the history of SASFAA that a leadership summit has been convened under the guidance of a professional facilitator. The participants are expected to review in depth the Long Range Plan, 6/30/06- 7/1/11, the current Governance and Planning Report, the 2005 Membership Survey results, the history of the development of the Long Range Plan and the Association’s Vision and Mission Statements.

It is hoped that this outcomes of this discussion will result in identification of new initiatives as well as the emergence of issues that may strain the capacities of the Association in the future.

Members of the committee, as approved by the Board of Directors, continue from last year. These include: Carol Mowbray, Northern Virginia Community College (chair); Crusie Lucero, Northeast State Technical Community College; Janet Sain, SunTrust; Tom Morehouse, Thomas Nelson Community College; Betty Whalen, Winthrop University; Jane McNaughton, EdAmerica; and, Peggy Loewy-Wellich, Nova Southeastern University.
