OCTOBER 2005

State Report from Alabama
Buddy Jackson, AASFAA President

The 2005/06 AASFAA year began with our annual Transition Board meeting, which was located at the Marriott hotel/Capital Hill, Prattville, Alabama. Dr. Bill Wall and Dee Talley provided us with an informative training session on the AASFAA By-Laws and Policies and Procedures Manual. In addition, each elected board member and committee chair reported the results of their individual areas of responsibilities. As a result of this meeting, the Policy and Procedure manual was revised. The
Transition Board meeting was very productive and it helped our year start off on a positive mode.

2005/06 AASFAA Officers:

President Buddy Jackson, Faulkner University
President-Elect Jonna Moses, Regions Bank
Vice President Ben Baker, University of North Alabama
Past President Dr. Chip Quisenberry, Enterprise-Ozark Community College
Secretary Donna Bass, Lurlean B. Wallace Community College
Treasurer Charles Markle, Auburn University
Treasurer-Elect Lissa Burleson, Samford University

The Fall 2005 Program Committee, under the excellent leadership of Joel Parris and Jonna Moses, held their first meeting on August 10th. This committee has an exciting program planned for our Fall meeting, which includes a couple of general sessions with Deborah Tarpley from the Department of Education presenting programs on Federal Update, IRS/Tax Information, Understanding Programs, Satisfactory Progress and Professional Judgment. The plans are to have concurrent sessions in three tracks: New Officer, Mid-Level and Senior. The 2005 Fall Conference will be held on October 12-14th at the Holiday Inn Select in Huntsville, Alabama. The theme is “SPACE”, since Huntsville is a space capital of the world, the committee decided that this would be an appropriate theme and each letter has a special meaning.

As a vital part of the conference, there will be a New Officer’s Workshop on Wednesday morning, which is
prior to the start of the conference. I know our Vice President, Mr. Ben Baker, will provide an excellent program for these new financial aid officers.

AASFAA’s Fall NASFAA training will be held on November 30, 2005 at the RSA Union Building, Montgomery, Alabama. Our Vice President, Mr. Ben Baker, will be coordinating this workshop for our members after attending NASFAA’s “Train the Trainer” Workshop in Washington, D.C.
