State Report from Georgia

The GASFAA Transitional Board Meeting was held June 23-24 at the Sheraton Colony Square Hotel in Midtown, Atlanta. We were very pleased to be able to place all GASFAA volunteers on committees for 2005-2006. The 2005-2006 Executive Board began its year with much dialogue about our purpose as an association and how we are meeting the needs of our members.

The following goals for 2005-2006 were introduced and discussed by the Executive Board:

  • Ensure all GASFAA By-laws and Policies and Procedures documents are updated to incorporate all aspects of electronic voting for offices.
  • Complete major enhancements to the GASFAA website to better serve our members.
  • Complete GASFAA’s Strategic Plan, including the first ever planning retreat so that a wide representation of the membership can have involvement.
  • Offer member institutions NASFAA Decentralized Training at no cost to the schools.
  • Conduct a separate workshop aimed specifically for Bursar’s in the area of Cash Management.
  • Revise high school counselor training opportunities to reach more individuals.
  • Restructure GASFAA’s investments to secure funding.
  • Develop a GASFAA Leadership Development Program.
  • Plan a GASFAA Day with the Georgia Legislature.
  • Offer members a choice of format of Newsletter: Printed or Electronic.

Our Fall Conference will be held October 13-14 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Macon, Georgia. Vice President for Programs, Pennie Strong and her committee are committed to providing the opportunity for professional development with the conference theme, “Look Sharp, Think Sharp... On the Cutting Edge of Financial Aid.” Vice President for Professional Development, Melody Hodge and her committee will conduct the New Aid Officers Workshop for expected record numbers during preconference beginning on October 12.
