JUNE 2006

Report from the Vice President
Tolly Tollefson

Things are gearing up for a busy June. We have two major workshops happening this month, The New Aid Officers Workshop will be held June 18 - 23, 2006 at the University of North Carolina-Asheville in Asheville, North Carolina. There are 125 participants signed up and a long waiting list. The Mid-Level Workshop will be held June 25 -27, 2006 at Furman University in Greenville, South Carolina. We expect 60 participants.

We had a very successful One-Day New Aid Officers Workshop at the annual conference held in Greensboro, North Carolina in February 2006.

Report from the Secretary
Sandy Neel

Since the conference in February, Sandy has been very busy updating and revising SASFAA’s Policy and Procedure Manual. At the Conference, her committee met to review the P&P, and they worked very hard to ensure everything in it was accurate. Sandy would like to thank Cleo Martin, Director of Financial Aid at the Technical College of the Low Country; Dee Tally, Associate Director of Financial Aid at the University of Alabama-Birmingham; and Susan Little, Director of Financial aid at the University of Georgia for all their time and effort; for without their help and expertise, the Policy and Procedure Manual would not be updated.

On a personal note, Sandy would like to thank all her SASFAA friends and colleagues for having the faith in her to be the secretary of SASFAA. It is a very rewarding, but sometimes a very challenging position. Sandy is looking forward to passing her pen to Deborah Byrd, the new 2006-2008 SASFAA Secretary.

Report from the Treasurer
Heather Boutell

Professional development workshops are upon us, and Treasurer Boutell is busy processing all the checks for New Aid Officers Workshop and for Mid-level Workshop. New Aid Officers Workshop is already full, and will be a wonderful opportunity for new professionals to meet together. Good times are ahead in Asheville, NC. Special thanks go out to Vice President Tolly Tollefson for her thorough and helpful work thus far. For the participants who have not yet paid, please send your check to Heather Boutell as soon as possible. You can also pay via the web on-site at UNC-Asheville.

The Mid-level Workshop still has space available, so please consider attending this great workshop at Furman University. You need to be a SASFAA member to attend, so remember to send the $300 for the workshop along with $25 for SASFAA 05-06 membership dues if you’re not already a member. You can register on-line via this SASFAA website. Checks are accepted as always, and you can pay via the web on-site at beautiful Furman. Special thanks go to Bob Godfrey, SASFAA coordinator of this workshop, for his leadership and organization.

The SASFAA financial statement is on the web, and our finances are in excellent shape. If you have any questions regarding the budget or our financial status, please feel free to contact Clark Aldridge, Budget Chair, or Heather Boutell.

Treasurer Boutell looks forward to the summer when SASFAA is in full gear with meetings, workshops, and fun. The sun shines brightly on her old Kentucky home…. Hopefully you all will have a sunny summer with good times and happy students!
