The SASFAA New Aid Officer Workshop (NAOW) provides a unique opportunity to learn how to be a knowledgeable and compassionate administrator of financial aid. The NAO staff averages more than 20 years in financial aid of financial aid experience and are active in their schools, state and region.  In this week long training we will not only provide participants with understanding of federal aid concepts we will lay the ground work for a lifelong passion for the profession. This workshop is recommended for professionals with three years of financial experience or less.  However, participants up to  five years of limited financial aid experience may find this workshop beneficial.

Subjects

SASFAA New Aid Officer Workshop uses NASFAA Credentialing topics throughout the week.  Participants will receive access to learning guides and handouts from NASFAA U as part of the cost of the workshop.  Participants may also have the opportunity to test in certain subjects taught throughout the week at a significantly reduced cost.  Here are a list of subjects we will cover throughout the week.

Training facility

Wofford College, established in 1854, is an independent liberal arts college located in Spartanburg, S.C.  Wofford is located a few blocks north of the central business district of Spartanburg, S.C., an international commercial center. The college has operated continuously on its original campus, which was designated a National Historic District in 1974. In November 2002, the entire 170-acre campus was designated as the Roger Milliken Arboretum. Nearly 5,000 trees have been planted since 1992.

 Registration and fees

 The registration fee includes all instructional materials, housing (June 3-8), most meals, and SASFAA 2018-2019 membership. 

 Workshop Registration Fee - $675*

 PLEASE NOTE: Current 2017-2018 SASFAA Membership is required to register for the 2018 SASFAA New Aid Officers Summer Workshop. If you have not already done so, submit your membership application before you submit your registration for the workshop.

  Payment

Advance payment is required.  Registrants may not attend class if payment has not been received by the SASFAA Treasurer.  Registrations after May 18 are subject to a late fee of $50. 

Credit card payments may be made during the registration process.  To pay by credit card after registration has been completed, access the on-line payment option on the SASFAA website with login credentials (email address and password).

Checks must be received by the SASFAA Treasurer by May 25, 2018, or the attendee must bring the check to the event.

  Cancellation Policy

 Registration fee is fully refundable through May 18, 2018.  After May 18, 2018, there is no refund. The date the refund request is received by the SASFAA Treasurer will determine the percentage of refund.

  Housing

 After a long day of intense training, participants will be provided a comfortable environment to relax, recharge and prepare for the next day.  SASFAA has secured a new state of the art housing facility in The Village.  

 

  Meals

Most meals will be provided in a variety of ways throughout the week.  Beginning with Dinner on Sunday, June 3, 2018, participants will be provided breakfast, lunch and dinner meals, with one dinner "on your own".  Morning and afternoon beverage and snack breaks will also be provided.

  Travel

 The workshop will be held on the campus of Wofford College, Spartanburg, South Carolina.

 Please make your travel arrangements to allow you to arrive and check-in before the workshop begins on Sunday afternoon (5:00 p.m. opening session) and for you to attend all of Friday morning activities (check-out is 12:00 p.m.).  If you would like to arrive on Saturday, an additional night lodging is available for  a $40 fee. 

Wofford is 20 miles from Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport (GSP). 

Check in and Check out

 Sunday check-in hours are 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. 

 Check-out will take place at the conclusion of the workshop on Friday at noon.

 Free Time

 There is free time scheduled most evenings.  Attendees will be given the opportunity enjoy activities on campus, use of exercise facilities and study areas.  Those wishing to venture off campus will be responsible for your own transportation, however there will be a sign-up sheet posted in headquarters so that transportation can be coordinated among participants.

Graduation Celebration

 There is a banquet on Thursday evening.  More information will be provided at a later date.
