Statement of Candidacy
I am extremely honored to be nominated for the position of SASFAA Vice President. SASFAA provides leadership, unity, and communication that is necessary in this profession. I am very proud to be associated with an organization whose foundation is built on service and dedication to students in their pursuit of an education. The changes we are continuing to experience in the industry only deepen the importance of a strong association. It is more important than ever that as professionals we stay connected to our peers at all levels. As a first generation college student, my family and I had no idea what a FAFSA was or what to do with it. Luckily, the financial aid office at my school was very helpful. They helped us apply for financial aid and even hired me as a work-study student in their office. Without the help of the financial aid office and financial aid, I would not have been able to attend or finish college. I never imagined that my work-study job in the financial aid office would lead to where I am today. Given the opportunity, I will bring the necessary skills, abilities, and do my very best to facilitate the training and communication efforts of this valuable organization. I will advocate for issues that are important to all of us as we work to assist students in obtaining their goals in higher education. I would consider it a privilege to serve as your SASFAA Vice President and encourage every member to take advantage of the many opportunities provided by our association. I am proud to be part of SASFAA and I look forward to the opportunity to give back to the organization that has given so much to me. I look forward to the challenges of promoting professional development and training activities for SASFAA. |
