SASFAA Award Recipients

SASFAA recognizes outstanding service to the Association and the financial aid profession through its award process. Recipients are listed on the associated pages.

1. Distinguished Service Award

This is the highest honor bestowed by SASFAA. Individuals honored with a SASFAA Distinguished Service Award shall have made outstanding, significant, and meritorious contributions to the advancement of student financial aid or the profession.

2. Honorary Membership

Honorary membership shall be awarded to persons who have demonstrated outstanding service to SASFAA and to the student aid profession. Practicing financial aid administrators are not eligible to receive this award.

3. NASFAA Regional Leadership Award Recipients

The NASFAA Regional Leadership Award is presented to individuals, who need not be financial aid administrators, who have made outstanding contributions to the financial aid profession at the regional and state levels over a sustained period of time. 

The individuals selected for this award must:

• Exhibit high integrity and character
• Have shown creative leadership
• Have inspired and encouraged others to participate actively in professional development activities
• Have continued active involvement in professional organizations after holding elected office
• Have supported the goals and objectives of NASFAA.

4. NASFAA State Awards for SASFAA States

NASFAA's Gold Star Award recognizes innovative ideas in the financial aid arena at any level, targeted toward any constituency. This award is open to individuals working at NASFAA member institutions; member institutions; regional associations; and state associations.  Prior to the establishment of the Gold Star Award, NASFAA’s State Awards recognized state and regional associations of student financial aid administrators for outstanding projects that contribute to the financial aid profession and other groups.

4. NASFAA Regional Awards

NASFAA's Gold Star Award and State Awards have also recognized SASFAA for innovative projects on several occasions. See above for the full description of these awards and their criteria.
