Statement of Candidacy
One of the most rewarding experiences in my thirty two years of working in higher education, in particular SASFAA, is the group of friends I have made in our financial aid profession. Not only have I made friends, I have also gained colleagues, confidants, mentors and mentees. I have learned so much by serving on committees and boards and attending workshops and conferences. You cannot put a price tag on the ability to pick up the phone, text or email another professional about a pressing question or regulation interpretation. However, the services provided by SASFAA must always be cost-effective and it’s part of the Treasurer’s role to ensure our members receive the best training and services without breaking the bank in the process. I have served on boards during the “lean” times and know first -hand how our association can thrive during such times. The connection I have described is why I believe serving the members of the Southern Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators as its next Treasurer is paramount. I wish to continue the legacy of providing a fiscally sound organization so our members will continue to learn alongside our new and seasoned members for many years to come. The running joke is you do not go to college to be an aid administrator. Maybe so but once it is in your blood, it is hard to imagine doing anything else; all the while serving students and families and bridging the opportunity to make a college education possible. I appreciate the opportunity to vie for the position of Treasurer. Along with your support and participation, we will have many more of these transformational experiences as financial aid administrators. Thank you for your consideration. |
