Statement of Candidacy
I began my journey in the world of financial aid in April 2009 after working 13 years in the corporate world as a banker. I had assumed it would be more of a parallel move because of my experience in the world of tax returns, finances, and balance sheets. Man was I wrong. I needed the support of many of my fellow financial aid partners. I can honestly say that I would have never made it had it not been for those who shared everything, taught me everything and gave me anything. That’s the reason I decided to get into MASFA and later become Mississippi President. I wanted and needed to give back and serve others. My time as President allowed me the opportunity to serve on the SAFSA board as well. I quickly learned that that Mississippi was not alone with those willing to serve and give of their time. It takes a lot of time and commitment to serve in any compacity. The last few years I haven’t been able to attend as many conferences due to the age of my children and being involved in their activities but some of that has lightened and now, I feel I have the time to give back to this great community. I am grateful and humbled to have been considered. |
